Verb Farms

Start up and social enterprise

We are currently designing and building vertical farm technology to be used for the indoor farming of lettuce, kale, and herbs.  Our aim is to become a social enterprise inspiring and educating our people into agritech, especially our tamariki, our children funded by the sale of both produce and farm tech.

Vertical Farming

As populations grow and demand for housing increases, our agricultural areas are under pressure. In addition traditional methods of farming use large amounts of water and can cause problems with agricultural run off. Vertical farming provides a solution that uses artificial lighting and heating to allow vertical rows of plants to thrive throughout the year no matter what the weather. These farms have been shown to use 90% less water and land space.

Social Enterprise in Agritech Education

Creating a vertical farm with inovative technology is just the first part of our project. We are already working on ideas with tertiary organisations for agritech STEM kits for schools to inspire our tamariki, our children into tech and agriculture. We also want to educate and inspire adults to see that agricultural jobs can be modern and inovative.

Growing Technology

A combination of new lighting methods, dehumidifiers, climate control, automated nutrient control and growing software can reduce man hours and plant loss.
We are planning options that are small scale, manual and affordable as well as fully automated farms. We are partnering with social enterprise Kete Kai who provide affordable food bags and support local community organisations.
Vertical farming can save land and water use while providing locally based businesses and employment.

All the Tools You Need to Succeed

Verb farms is currently a small research unit. We are keen to collaborate with high schools and iwi to discuss ways that this project can be used in the future to increase skills and self employed businesses.
Our container research will be done with leafy greens such as lettuce, spinach and herbs.
